I never had trouble with racoons on the mountain, in the field or barn. Erin would usually sleep most the day on the front step or in the house, then rise at dusk and be off and away. She took her 'territory' very seriously.

For some reason, tho, she never bothered deer, even as they ate through the orchard. Too cute? Seriously, I'd look out and see a half dozen out there, standing on heel, and plucking apples, and she'd be watching them from the porch. "I knooow I said don't hurt them, but you could chase them off"
