You could be right. You might be totally wrong.
What price was Stratacom, and what was the PE of Stratacom when
they got bought by Cisco? Answer: Huge.
Point is: If you want to be a player in this industry which can
have exponential growth, then, if you are the acquiring company,
you pay. CSCO looked like they were paying way too much for
Stratacom, but they dearly needed Stratacom if they wanted to be
part of ATM. It was a great synergy, and is paying off well for
Cisco. Plus it secures the future for Cisco.
Ascend, atleast appears cheap: 1.3 billion $$'s sales, and growing.
Stock trades at about 4.5X revs. A buy-out could command 7.5 to
8.0 X revs which is $10 billion, which is around $ 53/share.
ALL GREAT COMPANIES HAVE APPEARED TO LOOK OVERPRICED<
