When I lived in Brookline, MA, my bedroom was on the 3d floor of a 3 story brick duplex. It had a very mature Wisteria vine that grew up the side of the house. There was a family of momma and baby raccoons one spring and they'd climb the fine (probably trying to see if they could get in the house). One time I heard something, looked out the window and there was this little youngster raccoon 6" from my face, hissing at me.

We also had a skunk lived under the front porch (this is Brookline, mind you - home city for Michael Dukakis, next over town from Boston). My dog got sprayed once, and another time the skunk fell into a basement window well and couldn't get out.
