A Rain Check ...

Hi Doren,

<< REQUEST: I'm becoming increasingly lost in the architectures both hardware and software and in the coming standards and standards wars ... what would really help me... what I'd actually like... is a concise definition of each tech, along with a short description of the advantages and disadvantages of each. Like a tiny Wiki. And it would be nice if it were regularly updated. I would like it in place of the original post so I could turn it on or off for reference as I try to wade through understanding all the techs. It would also be nice to have a quick synopsis of the major platforms although I'm not sure if it could all be fit in. >>

That's a very reasonable request, and it was my original intention when I founded this board to do pretty much what you have requested with the possible help of others (as well as tracking the history of the major smartphone and MID OSs), but I keep getting side tracked and haven't given this board the attention I meant to from the outset. My latest excuse <g> is that I'm mid-way through a migration (with the associated learning) from XP to Win7 on my primary desktop DPE, and cleaning up my XP Pro SP3 secondary desktop. I'm pretty well progressed but I have some Win7 tweaking and optimization still ahead.

Bits and pieces of relevant data are scattered throughout a dozen of my text files and I'm overdue consolidating it. Before I tackle that however I intend to abstract quarterly unit shipments, sell through, and share growth/decline, for the last 8 quarters, and right now I'm putting together the sell-in numbers from IDC and Canalys for CQ3'09 which I'll then cut back for the fuller abstract.

I need a rain check, but I do intend to make some progress on what you requested in coming months.

<< I'm really not qualified to do this so what I'm asking is kind of selfish although I would contribute what I could >>

All contributions are welcomed.

Best,

- Eric -
