Barrick worked the essentially sterile forward-sales racket for a couple of decades and wound up missing out on the acceleration in spot gold prices, plus huge indebtedness for its hedge positions.

I can't see why anyone would choose ABX as a gold play.

I was not happy to see an interview with the CEO of Newmont, who did not rule out a combination with Barrick. Maybe if NEM can buy up Barrick cheap once it's paid off all its hedges, but I hate to see anything I have an interest in burdening itself with another company's obligations.
