I guess I was trying to point out that Republicans, or the Republican party, or me and you (although I don't consider myself strictly a Republican either), have a greater PR problem than I had thought. Unitarians generally pride themselves on being open minded and tolerant, feel they do a good job of looking at all sides of an issue, expend some effort on their own spiritual journey. And yet there were six kewpie doll heads bobbing up and down over a pretty shallow stereotype. And yes there was some attitude over fundamentalist farmers living in McMansions. It gave me a variety of things to think about and I'm not done yet turning this over in my mind.

Like the lengthy conversation I had with the father of one of the boys on Jon's soccer team this fall. He's a mechanical engineering professor at Northwestern. He believes (strongly) that we (the government, the sociology department, some undefined collective) should do a 'best practices' review of capitalism, socialism, and communism and implement the aspects of each that work best. No blind spot there. I've known him some years and waded into this topic after overhearing another conversation between him and a fellow prof. (another dad, another soccer game). 45 minutes of how the republicans (capitalists) had maneuvered society since the 20's, with numerous scholarly books cited along the way.

Or the PollingPoint survey I did yesterday which asked questions about how I felt about the inequality of pay and should income be re-distributed along social justice guidelines. And not just a couple of questions, the entire point of the survey. Just being asked those questions worries me.
