what's the difference between running low on a vaccine and running low on money ??

The vaccine shortage is unintentional. A money shortage is to some extent a choice.

While I think that your use of the "death panel" is absurd hype in either case, it is somewhat less absurd when applied to rationing medical care because with that there's a choice between paying up and rationing. With a vaccine shortage there is no alternative to rationing. The only question is the rationing methodology.

"Death panel" is a highly negative term. Re "panel," assembling a panel for the purpose of recommending a rationing methodology when there is no choice but to ration is not a negative in a democracy. A panel would be more representative, transparent, and wise than some individual making the call. So the fact that it's a "panel" would seem to be a plus. As for the "death" part of the term, that's not entirely off base because some of those who don't receive the vaccine will die. But the point of the panel is to minimize the number. If fewer people die with the panel than without it, then the "death" in "death panel" would be inapt and unduly negative.

You refuse to deal with the inevitability of rationing. I can understand that better in the case of health care coverage where we have the choice between rationing and bankruptcy. I cannot understand it at all in the case of a vaccine shortage. You are not facing reality. Hiding under the bed and shouting "death panel" when rationing is inevitable is not constructive.

I read several blog posts today about whether or not the R's were capable of governing or only throwing bricks. Thought of you... <g>
