Sure the vaccines are made by private companies, but the government strictly controls the process.

No it doesn't. Gov't scientists don't go in and set up the eggs, inject the cultivation, etc. The vaccine companies bid for the job and the gov't awards the contract.

The government imposed control on prices (reducing the number of firms, and the investment in vaccines), then later they decided that the vaccines would be produced without including any adjuvants (reducing the yield), they also put in place far more time consuming testing requirements for the vaccines (here at least there could be some justification, but European countries and others seem to do fine without these delays).

Producing vaccine is a marginal business......its time consuming and demand can be unpredictable.

If it wasn't for those government steps its unlikely that there would be any vaccine shortage.

Said by someone who clearly doesn't understand what the problem is with the swine flu vaccine. In fairness to the pharm. companies, they did not have a great of deal of time producing a vaccine for what is a relatively new virus. Having said that, they screwed up the yields......when testing the yields, they misread the results and mispresented to the gov't how much vaccine they could get to the gov't by what date. Only in early Oct. did they realize they had messed up.

The delays had nothing to do with the gov't. However, you have such a strong bias against gov't that you ASSumed that the gov't was at fault. What you can't seem to accept is that industry screws up fairly regularly in all kinds of different ways.
