Agree. I think universal health care will help with this as it will help people pay and therefore give poorer rural areas the means to support Doctors.

That makes sense. And could always help lure a young doctor with a house... something like churches do with a parsonage. I don't know how 'possible' that is, but it's a thought. that could help a doctor right out of school to be paying off their school debt.

Agree. Just good GP's in rural areas to start with would be OK

Even with someone younger if they have heart issues, or a family history of that, a regular doc would be good. or someone dealing with diabetis, that sort of thing.

when we get the electronic records going that would be helpful for clinics, I'd think. a woman with a history of bladder infections, they'd pull that info up and know to check for it.

one thing you read about is the crazy hours gps work these days. a clinic could relieve them of a flood of people in flu season, etc.

the clinic here doesn't deal with anything that needs exrayed, which I think is to cut down on insurance costs.

ER expenses are a crusher all around. I got banged up a few years ago and went to the ER for xrays and they checked my chest and shoulder and talked with me about 5 minutes. It was $1300. i went for a follow-up to a gp they connected me with and he xrayed my head, as it hadn't cleared up, talked with for 20 or so minutes about concunsions (sp) and it was $160 to walk out of there. I asked the woman 3 times if that was right. amazing. and, yes, that is a case where if I had a gp I would have gone to him/her right away if they could me in.
