I think you may be wrong about the reasons a company buys new steppers using mercury bulbs. The ony semi manufacturer I know a lot about is Intel, and they want every detail in their fabs to be identical when possible, and they don't want to be the first one to try new equipment in mass production, though they are early to trial run it. They won't use laser systems for mass production a day earlier than necessary to keep thir lead. New machines involve learning curves and cost more. Wait a bit,let the other guy find the flaws. It won't be too long before laser based become a necessity, then shipments will be logarithmic.
