<>< David,
Yes there is a distincton, however, minute. Eternal, Lasting forever: without beginning or end. The belief of many, not just mormons, is that our souls have always existed with God, and this belief arises out of Genesis 1:26 " And God Said, let us make man in our image...." God as it is used in that scripture is Elohiym. Which is the plural of God, to incorporate God and the angels (souls).
Everlasting, Lasting forever, eternal. With no considerstion given to "beginning"
In the scriptures both words are #166 in the Greek, and can be used interchangably. It is used of past time, and future as well.
For ex. John 3:16 was translated "everlasting life", but the manuscripts read "eternal life"
Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't. I will be praying that God gives you a dose of His supernatural wisdom exactly when you need it. If we do our part God is faithful to do His. To God be the glory!
