Who are these "powers that be"? I don't see to many sources of funding for something like this.

The folks that benefit from the status quo... insurance companies, drug companies and providers. They have HUGE lobbies, not sure but I think the biggest in the country. Obviously they would benefit from the perception that we have the best health care in the world.
