a cove, at least in my understanding of the southern understanding of it, is generally on top of a mountain, but it's a wide space, spreads out, then moutains rise at the rim of it. you can breath in a cove. and farm more...
like in the holler, my grandparents place was the biggest farm area there, really the only farm area, other than that it is only fit for family garden patches. and behind the house the patch is 9 acres. it's a lil piece where the hills make a dip, rather than running straight on. width + length you get 9 acres, that ain't a lot.
in the cove, yer on top that hill that rises from the holler. then there is large expance that crosses over to the next hill, that then falls down into the next holler.
