China is a good case for my argument. The country started thriving economically* after it loosened government controls on the economy.

* It has been thriving, growing to an extraordinary degree but probably less than many stats would suggest, since GDP growth is above the actual change in income and wealth and spending for the Chinese people. If you want me to explain I can try, but its not a point I want to toss off quickly.
