Competition constantly erodes at dominant companies when the free market is allowed to exist.

By what mechanism does a company get dominant then? Why doesn't competition constantly eroding them prevent the dominance from developing in the first place?

I think a much more likely dynamic is that success results in dominance, and dominance results in corruption, which then insulates against erosive competition.

You might want to think of the Robber Barons prior to anti-trust regulation.
