I don't know the article. But Texas is a pretty big place. Even East Texas. You have places like Vidor, which used to be a Klan stronghold, and then you have places like Houston and Galveston which are extremely diverse. But Vidor has become a bedroom community that isn't so focused on race issues. Until relatively recently, Texas in general was fairly tolerant of differences. That started to change with the influx during the Boom Times. Things have changed, but the Shorty's are not representative of the natives.
