Blending practices vary enormously. In US domestic wine, only 75% of what is in the bottle needs to be the variety on the bottle and there is no requirement to disclose that any blending occurred, so there is a lot of invisible blending.

Old vine Zinfandel is very often a field blend. Enough so that there are some of the Ridge vineyards which they no longer call Zinfandel, e.g., Lytton Springs, because the percentage in any given year might be over or under 75% and so they have opted for consistent labeling to not call it Zinfandel.
