I gather from the confusion of non-southerners re hollows, that it is a southern word for it, which increases my curiosity of the history of the term.

also, I think in the tight gaps/passes/whatever... they are more intense here, though I've seen pics from the PA hills that are similiar.

a hollow is a pass you can do a road down that is pure one car wide, or at best 1 1/2. and you have spots you can manage to stick a house on one side and or the other. is that gully like?

where I have been off the big roads in are TX, New Mexico, AZ and CA (aside from southern). My feel of the physical country of other places is scant.
