Not exactly so. Although I'm not saying your observations about Bachmann and her group are incorrect, My argument is that the means we as a people use to evaluate politicians refer to our cultural norms. It HAS NOTHING TO DO with whether or not those cultural norms are scientifically valid. As I hopefully pointed out somewhere along the way--those norms are varied and science is but one of our values and these norms compete against each other in our culture. Indeed, I submit they are the basis of the red blue divide--argumentatively so without data. Therefore, it is incorrect to say Bachmann is a "nutjob" (i.e. Abnormal) inasmuch as she complies with at least some of the cultural norms (at least of those of the group that elected her.) One can make these same arguments in reference to Palin, Gay Marriage, or any other issue where our value system is in flux. I think, but am not sure, the literature/authors you cited previously would just be commenting on the different norms we use and how they compete against each other.
