"Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF), the successor to AFDC, is assumed to provide qualifying households with a cash grant of $395 per month."

This is what I mean. Where is TANF $395 per month? In Texas, a family of 3 can get, at most, $170 or so a month. And to get that, they have to spend at least 35 hours a week looking for work. And that time is verified. Plus there are so many restrictions and disqualifiers that it is almost impossible to actually get it.

To put it in perspective, here at the numbers for Texas.

hhsc.state.tx.us

The latest figures, September 2009, for Brazos county, which is far from wealthy and hitting hard times now, had a grand total of 17 individuals(14 of whom are children) receiving TANF at an average of $75 a head. This is out of a population of more than 175k. If their annual income is more than a few hundred dollars, they can't qualify.

Given this rather glaring mis-statement, I suspect the rest are tainted in a similar manner.

So, yeah, the math is nonsensical.
