<socialized systems> Insurance is socialized risk. The role of government is to make sure that the entire population is included in the risk pool -- to make sure that nobody is excluded for any reason whatsoever. It is the hallmark of modern civilization. That this concept needs to be debated in America is itself a sign of backwardness.
