La Jornada is a way-leftie paper, consistently so and to the degree that i'd be careful taking any of it as gospel ... which is probably a good idea with any medium, though Reforma would imho be more likely to check its facts first, or get its facts checked after the fact by a contrary writer in the same paper ... anyway, mexican papers are, like mexican courts, quite political
SLP is an artsy-fartsy town of a million people now, lotta money held by people who don't have to work, who are unlikely to feel much for common interest with the working man ... two figures i see for distance from CSP to SLP, 8km and 20km, the latter from the strikingly uninformative company website - looks like it is measuring from el centro, while the 8km is from nearest part? ... any way you cut it, that's close - imagine an open pit mine 10 miles upstream from Taos, or Aspen, or Kelowna, now imagine each of those places with a million population
Google with < cerro san pedro san luis potosi > and it comes up top hit on google maps ... yup that's close ... i've met a few from SLP, hung out for a while with a young lady from there, not a one of them would be other than way-left and anti-industry, mostly they were all over the country flogging artsy stuff to tourists ... might have just been luck of the draw, or maybe not
What are the facts on the ground - do a majority of immediate locals support the mine, is there any fouling of the groundwater, was there in fact anything illegal or unethical in the way the claims were secured? ... it will live or die on these questions, particularly the first two ... i have no idea of the answers, haven't got to looking into it yet, this issue just luckily happened after i'd shifted a lot of nickels from New Gold and its A-wts to Metalline ... curious, though, intend to be back in ngd at some point, think it's a good company and could make it without CSP if necessary
One of the problems in trying to learn anything on the net, is that good mexican publications are all subscription sites, Proceso, Reforma, etc, even Notimex which is quite good and searchable provided that you pay up ... la Jornada is free, also very predictable if you like that sort of thing, but good luck finding out the truth of the matter without an objective third party sussing it out thoroughly
Open up the rock, move a lot of material around, and you can have effect on groundwater - Message 26118785 |
