There was an excellent segment on 60 Minutes this Sunday, about how expensive death is in this country. 18-20% of the dying end up in the Intensive Care Unit, where the average charges run $10,000/day. Sheepfcker, It was an excellent, ONE-SIDED segment. There was a great example of one of these women dying in ICU getting a PAP smear. Only a government run program would have paid for this. No private insurance would have accepted this. No private insurance would have paid for 25 specialists to see the patient when she clearly was dying. While everyone acknowledges the problem, there are vast differences over the solution. Generally, the Left believes the government bureaucrat, which as indicated above, is the problem -- should be the ideal solution. You want to solve this problem, put private insurance in charge of Medicare. But you want to give government, the entity that has made a mess of it, MORE authority to create an even bigger bureaucracy. It is out of ignorance you take these positions. But if you don't understand the issue-- and you don't -- why not get out of the way of those of us who do?
