This not a matter of cars and gasoline. That is one piece of a much larger picture -- but surely you knew that.

It is about the buildings we live and work in, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the electricity we use, the forests we cut -- and yes, it is about how we get around in cars.

As for economic growth, the economic growth potential from climate change mitigation is the main reason it has so much global political support -- it promises an economic boom the likes of which we have never seen. On the other hand, if you are an oil company, or a major military contractor, then it is bad news.

From an economic standpoint we can be a lead player or we can watch the rest of the world move forward and leave us in their dust.
