I trust everyone understands that the advantage of intelligence for survival no longer holds. Relatively few intelligent people now make medicines, clean water, and food for the less educated masses. Supported by this technology, the masses procreate and survive at rates many times higher than the intelligentsia. Consequently, for the species as a whole, there is now an evolutionary disadvantage to being smart. You spend too much time studying and not enough time doing "something else". I also trust you can see where this is going.

PS - Of course, after the last "smart" person dies, no one can read the instruction manuals, and so the whole evolutionary process begins anew.
