Interesting irrelevant argument. The point was about how much government was a busy body because of the programs. Even if a program helps better people's lives that doesn't mean it interferes less. Your making a claim about the success of or overall benefit of a program and presenting it as if it determined the more narrow question that's actually at hand when it doesn't.

Beyond that "helped better the lives of people" is a pretty meaningless statement about a large government program. Any large government program, even Vietnam which was a clear failure overall, helped better the lives of people. Spend trillions of dollars and some people are going to be helped.
