I am going out of my area of expertise here, such as it is, but there are those who would argue that the bond rates are being kept artificially low by the Fed's participation in T-auctions. We're subsidizing rates lower than what the market would demand. Additionally, because of this, when rates do rise the rise will be steeper and swifter than normal.
