The only thing I'm sure of is that the earth will carry on, with or without us. "Destroying the earth" generally means to people wrecking our life on it or wiping ourselves out (be it gw, a meteor, bombs, whatever). I don't think the earth considers us relevant, atall. (not the earth 'thinks'. does it?)
