"...not all of those issues are due to lifestyle choices or issues with preventive medicine, and the majority of those that are do to lifestyle choices aren't going to be easily changed."

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. I doubt there's a single person who doesn't know right now that smoking, drinking, and fatty foods aren't "healthy." The only "prevention" is a change in lifestyle, and for food at least, a greatly increased cost in the grocery bill.

The so-called "savings" intended by this preventative care in the health care bills will derive from withholding care from people with diabetes, heart/lung trouble, or liver problems. Making all diabetics pay for their own test strips and medications will "save" a heck of a lot of money. Letting smokers die off will kill two birds with one stone, cost and removal of pariahs. And think of how many vehicle accidents will be prevented by letting those old drunks croak.

So, clearly, "preventative medicine," namely withholding medical care from those folks, will have some huge savings.

We all have to understand, the current controversy isn't about reforming health care, it is about REDISTRIBUTING health care.
