I really haven't recently been following this thread, but wanted to answer as you're addressing something I said some time ago.
I believe if Obama really wants to spur employment, he must spur new jobs, in new industries, and largely they'll be new green industries. America needs to once again become the leader in producing things like equipment that makes the world a better place. First we must develop the technology, then go into mass producing it. I'm talking about things like Carbon Nanotubes replacing all sorts of electronic technology, including massive flat panel displays, and they'll use a fraction of the power. This same technology should replace the incandescent light bulb, not the CFL which still uses perhaps 15% of the power. CFL's are now being produced all over the world, we need to look at what should be two generations out and go to be the world leader there. LED's are the next generation, and available in many applications, but CNT's no, we know they work, last almost forever, but no one I'm aware of is producing CNT products.
We should have a manhattan project approach to Fusion reactors. Our trash, garbage, and sewage should all be turned into something useful, and we should export the equipment to make it happen to all the world. My point is that if we use federal funds to fix the wrongs in the world, it will fix our employment problems as well. It won't happen instantly, but it's what we need to fix what's wrong, not just put a bandage on it.
