Actually I do believe that Obama wrote The Great Race Speech. It does show Obama's "fluidity of mind" - a fluidity devoted entirely to sounding plausible and emotionally appealing, regardless of the damage done to facts or logic. Obama's meta-theme is always: "Agree with me, and show yourself to be on the side of the angels. Never mind the pesky details."

He sure got Cohen. I see that even eighteen months later, Cohen is still buying the "emotional scar tissue" line about Jeremiah Wright. I don't. Jeremiah Wright grew up middle class in Philadelphia. His perpetual victim status is a chosen stance. Condi Rice grew up in segregated Birmingham Alabama. She chose a different stance.

Obama fooled so many bright people, there has to be something there. But they are slowly finding out, like the distressed Julia in Brideshead Revisted, that they have hitched themselves to half a man, a hollow man, a stage set facade with no rooms behind it.
