All the news I can bear to read these days is on The Daily Show. My wife is definitely that way. Reading the NYTimes in the morning is just one long complaint. I'm not yet there. I can still argue with myself that this is a better first year than other presidents I've watched so closely at similar times--Clinton and Carter. And, given that our politics are so much worse than either faced, that's saying a great deal. I'm not as optimistic as Rick Hertzberg or Andrew Sullivan but I can listen to their arguments without getting irritated.
