I'd agree with your comments except for one thing, gerrymandering. We have a redistricting system that actively promotes getting extremists elected to Congress. This is true on both sides of the aisle and will continue to be true as long as gerrymandering allows the creation of so many "safe" districts. We have been far more centrist in our Presidential elections. Slacker
