Sometimes, wishing for "great" leaders is the same as asking for.... interesting times.

Sometimes I long for a different model of leadership such as that demonstrated Captains Lewis and Clark who led the Corps of Discovery on a three-year mission across unknown territory filled with animals and rivers that could kill them, and inhabited by people who could kill them.

They shared the leadership and had a successful result. The key ingredient is the friendship between the two. You can't have leadership shared by people whose loyalties are to themselves, such as we have now.
