New Zealand Government’s chief climate advisory unit NIWA is under fire for publishing climate data that have been 'adjusted' to show more late 20th century warming than is supported by the raw numbers. Graphs here:

The thought has occurred to me: if a slight late 20th century warming trend was juiced up by artificially depressing temperatures before 1960, as seems to have been done in New Zealand, that would be a large part of the reason global warming has stopped since 1998. You can only pull this trick once. Once you have published 'adjusted' numbers for 1900 to 2000, you can't go back and readjust them when you need more warming in 2009.

That's a sick thought: global warming has stopped because Harry took over the data conversion from 1995 forwards and has been playing it straight with the data.

At this point, anything is possible.
