President Bush never tried to win Afghanistan by overwhelming force. He may also have used history as a guide. Conquerers have always failed in Afghanistan. We need to be an ally of a legitimate government and help them succeed.

Totally agree.. I wish we had taken greater pains over the past 8 years to pressure the Afghani elites to have just that.

Either way, the US always catches the blame and never gets the credit. So if we're going to be damned by the world, we might has be damned for doing the right thing.
