No, I'm with you. Industries SHOULD clean up their act. It's too bad they don't do it just because it's right instead of being forced to do it by the zealotry that developed around the issue.
Wikipedia has a big spread on it.
MY point is that NATURE IS RESILIENT and will adjust to whatever conditions are present. Some times we don't like the result, as in introduced species like tansy ragwort. That SHOULD NOT require zealotry to repair. We're all on this planet together.
When you come down to it, it's a matter of WHO CAUSED IT, WHO PAYS, and WHO BENEFITS. There should be some leveling around those three issues, worked out in a rational way NOT involving zealotry.
