I had a conversation with some junior officers (Lieut. and Capt. level)this weekend and I heard quite a bit of grousing about the Fort Hood incident with the general concensus being the post commander is a wimp who should have insisted on an immediate court martial and firing squad, if convicted, for the SOB. Also heard a lot of grousing about senior military leadership being "too political" nowadays. Not much confidence in the Joint Chiefs, etc. Generally, Petraeus and McChrystal seem to be well respected.
