And that's precisely why it was a war of honor. It was our last option. The war in Iraq was a discretionary war that has cost us lives and treasure we could not afford to lose and we've gained nothing by it.

You give too much power to the Islamists. They aren't nearly as much of a threat, now that we openly acknowledge the threat exists. Our problem before was that we didn't take them seriously, so they caught us with our pants down. But now that we do, we have effectively neutralized them, but we have to be careful not to overreact, like we've been doing for 8 years.

The single best thing we could do to combat these terrorists is to become oil independent, not fight large scale wars that allow them to slowly bleed our Treasury dry. Right now and during the Bush Admin, we played right into their hands, playing by the rules that Bin Laden laid down for us.

He openly announced that he was going to bleed us dry in a never ending asymmetrical war. That's exactly what has been happening, all the while the GOP tells us that we should not worry about the cost of war.
