Could be, though certainly society as a whole don't seem to think so...too bad you can't go back and meet him... further, the scientific community don't deem it relevant... it's irrelevant to me as my only interest is in the truth... and therefore the science behind the theory.

All important for those looking somehow negate the science by pointing to character... I certainly see that:

As I said, some people really like finding things to blame their unhappiness on. Darwin is as good as anyone... have at him.

AS for Mendel, the same is true... if his work hadn't been repeated and his overal theory shown to be pretty much right on... there are certaily questions by some about his data.... being "too perfect", for example... that is if you're into digging for skeletons in closets.
