Economic deprivation forces a lot to sign up for the military. few other options other than abject poverty or crime. Not new. And of course there's always a carrot. In Roman times, I believe it was Roman citizenship after 20 years in the Legions. Today it's citizenship (for non US citizens) and the chance of an education per the GI bill. Scam of the banksters and big corporations for years. They export all the jobs abroad (otherwise, how could they "compete" internationally, earning the big bucks to distribute to their CEOs and executive staff?), and unemployment and layoffs continue to ramp, creating more fodder for any upcoming war they choose or a pool of very cheap, desparate labor, whichever comes first. Their greed will be their undoing, and there will be a revolt.
