It certainly was. <Sounds like an interesting line of work. > I didn't realize how interesting it was until later, but I certainly liked my time in Antwerp, with excellent bosses and colleagues from around the world.

I made a couple of good career choices early on which led to those opportunities. But maybe making other choices would have led to better things - or worse. Hypothetical modeling of climate and careers cannot accurately represent reality though broad possibilities can be guessed at.

It's amusing to read the drooling anti Big Oil nonsense people write. The lowliest judges and stupidest politicians can shove them around, confiscate their money and ruin their lives. The public should beware themselves and their politicians, not Big Oil.

I used to rant to BP that having bought Sohio, they should be very very careful because that made them an American company and putting a foot wrong could lead to destruction of the company or at least enormous costs and penalties. The Exxon Valdez for example showed how badly things can go. BP had a couple of incidents which cost them dearly. A lawsuit over damaging umpty millions of brains through lead in petrol is still a possibility [though I'm not a lawyer so perhaps it would not make headway].

In British culture and law, the enormous company-destroying lawsuits are not part of the system.
