senior administration officials previously have said that about 30,000 will go in coming months

This decision proves ya cannot fix stupid.

Battlefield decisions should be made by battlefield experts.

Our war fighting expert says we need 40,000 to even have a chance of prevailing. O says you only get 3/4s of that. O is putting 3 wheels on a 4 wheel truck and expects the truck to accomplish its work.

This is a setup for failure. General McChrystal should ask O to decide exactly which part of the battlefield mission O wishes not to have accomplished.

O and the SECDEF Gates made the decision. Neither of them know a cotton picking thing about war fighting. Neither did Rumsfeld. We are 8 years in and still doing things half baked.

In WWII our army defeated Germany and Japan simultaneously and in short order. D-Day to victory in Europe Day was less than one year. We accomplished that by applying overwhelming force where and when necessary. And our military leadership accomplished that without a Pentagon, without a DOD and without the one million civilians that DOD currently employs.
There is a lesson there.
