I want to want to vote Dem, and I want to want to vote for Obama. But it seems just plain stupid to increase the cost of our military expenses overseas while at the same time sucking money out of the US economy by nipping the 51 million retirees.

I'm not going to argue about that premise, but the conclusion is a strange one. I don't see how it helps to then vote for a party that would make matters even worse: spend money on military adventures without putting them on the budget; try mightily to privatize ss (which would, for all intents and purposes, eliminate it); which has vowed, in the pledges of its last presidential candidate, to cut medicare vigorously to fund, among other things, more tax cuts.

Just doesn't make sense to me.

This is no better thinking than came out of the Bush administration, imo.

There is clearly a case that almost all that bothers you here are leftovers from the previous administration, with the Obama folk doing everything politically possible to correct them.
