LSI Logic Named Leading Consumer Electronics Chip Supplier in Dataquest Report

LSI Logic Corporation a leading systems-on-a-chip company announced it has received top industry rankings as a leading chip supplier to next-generation consumer electronics systems. In the recently published 1996 Consumer Electronic Semiconductor Market Share report, Dataquest ranks LSI Logic in the number two position behind Sony for semiconductor shipments used in next generation consumer electronics systems. LSI Logic's ranking represents a 12.6 percent worldwide market share in next-generation consumer electronics.

In other significant rankings, Dataquest places LSI Logic number two for 1996 worldwide revenue in the category of "Direct Broadcast Satellite Set Top Boxes" with a 27.6 percent market share. LSI Logic was ranked number two in the category of "MPEG-2 and AC-3 Decoder ICs," with 23.6 percent market share. Dataquest's category of "Next-Generation Consumer Electronics Products" include DBS set-top boxes, digital cable set-top boxes, 32-/64-bit video game controllers, video CD players, digital still cameras, digital camcorders for digital video, and DVD video players.
