I just had an interesting conversation with a physics professor who models climate (on Mars), a global warming skeptic. He said the East Anglia group had a very poor rep among climate scientists. He pointed out that what is particularly of concern is that everyone recognizes that it's impossible to know whether or not your model is correct and complete, therefore the ultimate benchmark is the historical record of climate data. He also told me that the famous "hockey stick" plot is based on data processed by this group. It seems that this is a big story.
