If you think the Afghanis are "innocent", then it must be implicitly acknowledged that the Taliban conquered and subjugated them and that our actions liberated them from such foreign and oppressive rule. Which means we are on the side of the Afghani people.
But here's how "traditional international law" perceives the issue:
The Afghani people permitted the Taliban to come to power.
The Afghani people permitted the Taliban to provide safe haven and training facilities to Al Qaida.
The Afghani people suffer the same fate as their government.
They were the "recognized" and "legitimate" government of that country and the policies they implement bear consequences for everyone in their country.
Do you think most Germans, or Japanese attacked the US, or even wanted to attack ANYONE?? They just shut their mouths and lived their lives as best they could, hoping that the war would not touch their lives. But it did.. We rained down bombs over both countries in hopes of undermining their support for their country's war effort.
And even NOW, with nuclear weapons, do you think you can use of those without killing innocent civilians? Do you think Iran will be able to use one against Israel without killing innocent Israelis and Palestinians?
You want a "kinder, gentler, form of war Sarman.. But that's not possible. War is terrible.. War is brutal.. War can often be indiscriminate in who is victimized by it.
And the US military is FAR MORE PROACTIVE in avoiding civilian casualties than any of your fanatical Muslim Militants.. You think all innocents are "martyrs" to your cause.
