I think you sort of have to hand it over to someone- and I suspect our government would like the "someone" to look authentic. I can understand that. Is it worth wasting lives over? Well, not for me. We were idiots for letting Bush go in to these wars- now that we are there, our government does not want the sort of pull out we did in Vietnam with desperate people hanging off our choppers. That just looks too bad. In terms of American "face" it's better to have the pull out look somewhat organized. Is it worth lives? Not to me- but again, I get where they are coming from, and quite frankly, Obama didn't start this war, and if he manages to get us out of us during his term, I'll count that a "win". If he doesn't, I'll be disappointed. But I won't be so disappointed I'll want to carve off my nose to spite my face- because republicans (for me) will ALWAYS be worse. Yes, things can always be worse.
