"What is the source of this immaterial reality known as reason"

Reason is merely the utilization of thought to assess reality as perceived through our senses. As logic and science have made premises more reliable our framework of facts has grown larger and stronger and thus able to support increasingly more complex and accurate assessments. Just as computers have grown from a simple ASCI core to a massive domain of source code which makes a modern computer compare to a TI99 4-a as a man of reason compares to an irrational nut such as the author of that article.

"If there is no God and we are nothing but chemicals, why should we trust anything we think"

If it doesn't work we don 't do it again. Nothing to do with whether unicorns exist or whether carrots are made of coal or not.
