I'm less concerned about him being consistent than him being on the "right side of history" in this decision.

What do the majority of ethnic Pashtuns seek in the long run here and how do our goals and their's mesh--if at all? It may be they just want to be tribal Islamic Pashtuns who don't want help from either Kabul or the Taliban.

If we can get answers to that, and maybe the answers from the Pashtuns themselves are diverse, we may have a better road map on this.
